What is the fire resistance of prefabricated houses with a timber load-bearing structure?

In terms of fire protection, timber is almost the best building material. In a fire, a charcoal layer forms very quickly, acting as a thermal insulator and slowing down further combustion.

The thermal conductivity of charcoal is roughly one sixth of that of solid timber. Thus, the temperature in solid timber remains almost unchanged at a very small distance from the point of ignition, and the reduction of its physical properties under the influence of fire is negligible.

An appropriate level of fire reliability is achieved by protecting the timber with non-combustible board cladding and by choosing more robust cross-sections of the timber elements.
